Ministry and Position
We at Calvary strive to be faithful to God's Word. In a day when many churches minimize the importance of beliefs, Calvary Baptist affirms the Bible as our rule of faith and practice.
Our church's purpose is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by helping Christians grow closer to God and to one another through the study of His Word and obedience to its precepts. We also seek opportunity to give the Gospel to all who are not believers both in the Kankakee area and around the world.
We have several opportunities for worship, service and growth: Sunday School, Worship Services, Music Ministry (vocal and instrumental), Youth Program, Missions Program and Conference, Outreach Ministry, Evangelistic Meetings, periodic Bible Conferences on special topics (family, etc.), Men's Ministry, Ladies' Fellowship and Nursing Home Ministry.
Calvary is an independent, fundamental Baptist church. What does that mean?
Independent- We are not under the auspices of any denomination or convention that governs our practice. The church calls its own pastors, sets its own guidelines for membership, establishes its own policy of governance, directs its own funds, selects its own curriculum and chooses its own missionaries to support. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Head of the church. We are affiliated with the Association of Independent Baptist Churches of Illinois which is a fellowship of churches.
Fundamental- We hold to the fundamentals of the faith as taught in the Bible and believe in personal and ecclesiastical separation. We strive to clearly and lovingly obey the Word of God. "At rock-bottom, biblical fundamentalism is all about absolute loyalty to absolute truth." (Dr. Douglas R. McLachlan)
Baptist - We hold to what is commonly identified as the "Baptist Distinctives." They are as follows:
Biblical Authority
Autonomy of the Local Church
Priesthood of the Believer
Two Ordinances: Baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper
Individual Soul Liberty
Saved and Baptized Church Membership
Two Offices: Pastor and Deacon
Separation of Church and State
Please contact the church for more information about our ministry.
